Tata Motors has expanded its Nexon lineup with the introduction of a CNG variant, making it the first SUV in India to offer four powertrain options: petrol, diesel, electric, and CNG. The Nexon CNG was launched with a starting price of Rs. 8.99 lakh (ex-showroom), positioning it as a competitive option in the compact SUV segment.
The Nexon CNG is powered by a 1.2-liter turbocharged petrol engine, which is notable for being India’s first turbocharged CNG powertrain. When running on CNG, this engine produces 99 bhp at 5500 RPM and 170 Nm of torque between 2000-3000 RPM. The vehicle is equipped with a six-speed manual transmission and offers a claimed fuel efficiency of 24 km/kg.
One of the standout features of the Nexon CNG is its twin-cylinder technology, which helps maintain a boot space of 321 liters. Like other Tata CNG vehicles, the Nexon can be started directly in CNG mode and allows easy switching between fuel modes using the same ECU.
The Nexon CNG is available in multiple variants, each offering a different set of features. The base ‘Smart (O)’ variant includes six airbags, LED headlamps and DRLs, LED taillights, and a two-spoke steering wheel with an illuminated logo. Higher variants add features such as a touchscreen infotainment system, voice-assisted electric sunroof, automatic headlamps, and rain-sensing wipers.
Top-end variants like the ‘Fearless + PS’ offer premium features including a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster with navigation display, ventilated front seats, a wireless charger, and a JBL-sourced music system. Safety features across the range include electronic stability program, hill hold control, and TPMS (Tire Pressure Monitoring System).
The Nexon CNG is the second vehicle in its segment, after the XUV 3XO, to offer a panoramic sunroof. This feature, along with others like the 360-degree camera and blind spot monitor, adds to the premium feel of the vehicle.
Tata Motors has positioned the Nexon CNG to compete directly with vehicles like the Maruti Suzuki Brezza in the compact SUV segment. With its range of features and unique powertrain option, the Nexon CNG aims to cater to customers looking for a balance between eco-friendly driving and performance.
The ex-showroom price range for the Tata Nexon CNG extends from Rs. 8.99 lakh to Rs. 14.59 lakh, covering various trim levels to suit different customer preferences and budgets.
