In addition to its current partnership with StarPlus Energy, Stellantis is planning to form a new joint venture alongside Samsung to construct a second electric car battery facility in the United States. A facility in Kokomo, Indiana, which is now under development, will be joined by the new factory when it opens in the beginning of 2027.
According to statements made by CEO Carlos Tavares, the second facility will assist in the production of a minimum of 25 battery-electric vehicles that will be available in North America by the end of this decade.
By the year 2030, Stellantis wants to have 50% of its passenger car as well as light truck sales in the United States be battery-electric vehicles, while the company wants all of its sales in Europe to be electric vehicles.
The Kokomo factory, which will be around 60 miles north of Indianapolis, will cost approximately $2.5 billion, will employ up to 1,400 people. Additionally, the company disclosed plans to establish a joint venture alongside LG Energy Solution to construct a USD 4.1 billion battery facility in Windsor, Ontario.
A merger between Fiat Chrysler and PSA Peugeot took place in 2021, which resulted in the formation of Stellantis.
